Taizé Service
April 5, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The term “Taizé” (teh-zay´) has become synonymous with a style of contemplative prayer that includes the singing of short songs or chants, which are softly repeated, allowing participants the time to focus on the basic realities of faith expressed in the words and images. This quiet, meditative singing becomes a way of listening to God. Through repetition, the songs sung aloud together during a Taizé service enter one’s soul, continuing in the silence of one’s heart long after the service is ended and daily activities resumed. History. Taizé is a small village in eastern France, near the town of Cluny. It is also the site of an ecumenical religious community of brothers from 25 different countries representing every continent. Founded in 1944, the Taizé Community has grown and groups now also exist in North and South America, Asia, and Africa. The Community is dedicated to the establishment of peace on earth. The brothers believe that peace will be brought about through reconciliation among Christian denominations, which leads to the reconciliation between people and, finally, the development of trust among nations. Everyone is encouraged to participate, as the Spirit moves them, whether that be in song, prayer, or quiet meditation. Respecting the atmosphere of silent contemplation and prayer, please both enter and leave the service in silence.
